Bristol: England won by 7 wickets

An easythe outing for the Englishmen who were at the top of the game. They have ticked most boxes today, starting with Adil Rashid who returned his maiden fifer in ODIs. Chasing was never going to be a headache and Hales's fifty made it a cakewalk. Root continues to churn up runs. Remained not-out on 49 and Bairstow provided finishing touches. Ireland have a lot to improve on. They needed to bring their A-game out against the mighty neighbours but could not really kick off after a decent start in the first five overs

Team News: ENG vs IRE

Review

England:

England are likely to play the players who are in the Champions Trophy squad which means Northamptonshire's Ben Duckett and Middlesex's Steven Finn are likely to miss out at Bristol. Without all-rounders Stokes and Woakes to balance the side, England may go in, unusually for them, with just five bowlers. If that is the case, Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood will likely take the new ball and the only real decision is whether England will play both Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid or opt for the extra seamer in Jake Ball. The batting order will pick itself with Bairstow at five and Billings at six.

Ireland:

Ireland have Kevin O'Brien and Stirling fit after injury issues in their last series against Afghanistan and the batting line-up, with wicket-keeper Gary Wilson in the middle order, is settled. The bowling attack is harder to predict but there may be a place for seamers Young and McCarthy, perhaps the best Irish long-term seam prospect, alongside Murtagh and Stuart Thompson. Off-spinner McBrine may be joined by former Somerset left-arm spinner George Dockrell should two slow bowlers be required.

Holder: It was a very good game for us. A collective team effort where we got good runs in both innings on that kind of a pitch. Credit must go to Shai Hope for the way he set it up for us. I thought if we got 170 we'd have a very good chance on the day five pitch. We had to use our variations, our cutters, crossed seam deliveries and the slower balls to our advantage. Credit to the boys for bowling the lengths right. We did put down a couple of chances in the second innings and these are a few areas where we could improve. [On Shai Hope] He likes batting here, has a couple of centuries on this ground, unfortunately couldn't go on to score a hundred today. We needed to keep the series alive, we had a couple of days to work on what we needed. Changed our practice schedules and our preparation and that helped. The series is now alive and either side could take it. Getting the consistency in the way we play is going to be the key.

Misbah: You can easily say that it was about our batting on a day five pitch. But after getting them to 150/6, we allowed them to go up to 300 which was critical. We knew the pitch was going to get worse by the day. In the first innings we could have made a bigger score but all credit to the Windies. They bowled tight lines and bowled their hearts out. The thought in the team was to stay normal and hit the ball if it was there. They fielded brilliantly first up and didn't give anything away. We knew that after 20 overs it becomes easier to survive but in the early overs itself we lost our key batsmen after which it was impossible to recover. The awkward bounce their bowlers got was because of their height. It was a tailor made pitch for them as they got the ball to move all around. Impressed with Abbas, he showed good skill. In fact bowlers on both sides did really well, just that we couldn't close out the first innings. Dominica is going to be an interesting Test match and that is what we play cricket for.

Shannon Gabriel, Man of the Match: It meant a lot to me. It was a complete team effort and the way Roston batted in the first innings set the game up for us. We knew that if we gave ourselves a good lead on this fifth day pitch anything could happen. [On his issue with no balls] I was trying too hard and trying to bowl too fast. I tried to relax and it went my way. It is one of my greatest achievements and to top it off with a victory makes it all the more special. The wicket was a bit up and down and we had to hit the right areas which is what we did.

Six sixes, twice. Gosh! IPL continues to amaze us, by throwing up players we never knew existed and the wonders they unfurl on the big stage. When all the big guns lost their chips, a certain young man from Maharashtra walked in and walloped bowlers all over the place. Big win this for RPS as they continue to leap up the table, just behind MI and KKR. As we reach the business end of the season, the mid-table tussle continues to get better. We hope to see more of this when DD take on GL tomorrow. Until then, we wish you good night and goodbye!!

Rahul: I enjoyed my batting today. I was getting good starts, but was not able to convert it. Happy that my team won today. I'm just trying to middle the ball, trying to concentrate on the wicket and not on the outside. I'm happy that I'm able to do well. I'm just watching the ball, hitting and it is coming off well. Yes! I hit six sixes in an over twice in the local tournament (*smiles*). I'm happy that I'm doing well and hopefully I will continue hitting. My role was just to play till the end. The coach and Smithy told me to be there till the end, so I was doing it ball by ball. The ball was coming on nicely and I tried enjoying myself out there in the middle.

Social media is a harsh place. It pulls you down when you are not going through the best of runs. A couple of losses and Delhi were made to realize that. But today they breathe again, cannot qualify as resurrection but the hosts have done well to take the fight to another day. Making it to the play-offs is going to be tough. But it cannot be ruled out. They are placed 6th now. Hyderabad continue to occupy the third spot. The IPL caravan continues to traverse across India. We will see you tomorrow with another one. Shami: This performance will boost my confidence. I was trying to back myself. It will be good for me and my team. If you get injured that disturbs you mentally. When on field, I do not feel that much pressure. It's a T20 format so you have to use the new ball and not give pace to the batsmen. We had different plans for both of them (Williamson and Warner), wanted to stick to my skills and leave it to luck.

Match 39: Pune won by 5 wickets

Now this is a stunning win, recovering from the shambles of 10/3, and then 42/4. Sangwan had a pretty comeback, striking twice in his first over and sending a tizzy down Pune's spine early in the game. What stood out was the pace and bounce he extracted, getting Steven Smith out with a top-edged pull. Should suggest a lot, given Umesh and Shami and Ishant tried all winter long. Ben Stokes walked in ahead of Dhoni, and outlived him at the crease, bruting a stunning 103 off 63 balls to take his side home. Thampi threatened to turn the tables around, when he scalped Dhoni with a slower ball in the seventeenth over. Pune looked done there, because Dhoni had consumed 33 balls for his 26, but Stokes took over brilliantly, unleashing at the right time. Thampi's last over quite ironically conceded 17 runs, which had two sixes from Stokes, and that changed the game. Just eight runs were needed from six, and bam, Pune were over the line.

Ben Stokes - "It's cramps in the calves. I get that a lot. Legs are not the best at the moment but I will be okay. It's great to be a part of both sides of the game; that's the best thing about being an all-rounder. We lost a few early wickets, and the start didn't help. I and MS tried to tick along and get something going. We wanted to attack early, then cool off to take it over by over. It's always nice, personal accolades and stuff like that, but we are on a roll as a team. If we keep performing like this, we can see ourselves in the final. I think the rest did me some good. I felt my training was slipping away, and I may have been doing some training that wasn't benefitting me. It was quite a good thing to go to the nets and hit the ball properly."

Rohit Sharma: We always knew the wicket was good. We could always get to the last over and finish it off. We always wanted to keep wickets in the hand. Overall clinical performance. We bowled and batted pretty well. We won it in the last over, but I'll take that win. Very important in this format to keep taking wickets. That is something we've been doing in this tournament. It keeps the batsmen guessing. Very happy with the way we have come out and performed in the last few games. We want to finish games in a clinical manner and that's what we did today. Always good to spend time out in the middle. I'm feeling good. It was just a matter of spending time out. I pick my areas and back myself. You get value for your shots here at the Wankhede. You need not hit the ball hard. Finding the gap is important. We want to do that (finish top). We want to be ruthless in our approach. The tournament doesn't end here. We have to stick together and play as well as a team which we have done so far.

(Fielding at long-on and long-off) can be challenging at times for a captain. We tried our best to make this our fortress and we can't thank the crowd enough."
