Score ;
England308/2 (47.2 ov)
Bangladesh 305/6 (50 ov)
England won by 8 wkts
Morgan: When a guy bats like that it becomes a lot easy. Having an in-form Hales is very important. He (Root) really has scored a lot of runs and he continues to do that. He has been working a lot on his power hitting and tonight it paid off. I want to lead from the front in this tournament. The guys are hungry to do well. We have got ourselves in good position after this one. Two more games to go. Probably we would have liked to take more wickets. An in batsman can really be dangerous. To continue to take wickets is going to be very important. No absolutely not, we went with the right decision in the morning considering one side of the boundary was so short and the ball was not turning (on his decision to not pick Adil Rashid today). Chris (Woakes) is the biggest concern right now. At the moment it does not feel right. We will assess everything in the morning after the scan. It will be a great game. World cup final (Australia vs New Zealand tomorrow) rematch so yeah will be watching.
Mortaza: I think 305 was a little bit short. We could not get wickets in the middle overs. Root batted pretty well and took the game away from us. Initially the wicket (was referring to the pitch) can swing and the batsmen can take time but at the end with 6-7 wickets in hands we could been a lot better. It was the first match so we thought we could go with 8 batsmen but we will have to think about it (the team combination). The main bowlers have to bowl better and we have to think about extra bowlers as well. The third umpire knows better than us. We have not seen it yet (replays perhaps), the umpire's decision is final.
-- Tamim has now scored five hundreds in his 28 innings post the 2015 WC. In the 140 innings till then, he had just four. 128 by him today is the highest for BAN in CT, highest for BAN in Eng and highest against ENG
-- 166 run stand b/w Tamim & Rahim is:
+ Highest third wicket stand in CT
+ Highest for BAN for any wicket outside Asia
+ Highest third wicket stand at the Oval
-- 305/6 is the highest for BAN against a top eight side in ODIs outside Asia. It is also their highest against ENG and highest in England
-- Third time Jake Ball conceded over 80 in 11 ODIs - joint most for an ENG bowler along with James Anderson (in 194 ODIs). In all ODIs, only Malinga has conceded 80+ on more instances - seven
Joe Root - Man of the Match: "It (the performance by England) is going to get better. Lot of confidence in the dressing room. We back each other's abilities and it rubs on everyone. It's nice to have Buttler and Stokes coming after you. It's about making sure that we have plenty of wickets at the back end. One of the top four/five has to get a 70 or a 100 not out. Sure there will be different scenarios in the tournament but we have to give it our best. Good to start on this note. Ankle is alright, it's more of a calf issue."
-- Joe Root became the third ENG player to hit ten ODI hundreds after Trescothick (12) and Morgan (10). His 84 innings to the landmark is the fourth fewest by any after de Kock, Amla and Kohli. 133* by him is the highest score and highest individual score for ENG in CT
-- 306 is the highest ever successful chase in CT going past 294 chased down by SL vs ENG at the same venue in 2013
-- ENG now have 25 300+ scores since the start of 2015 - the most for a team in a three-year stretch. India had 23 such scores between 2007 and 2009
Every tournament needs a blockbuster start. One-day cricket is going through that phase where it needs more competitive games. Today was a high-scoring one but it never looked like a close game. The only positive from a tournament's perspective was that the hosts came on top. There was a full house and that must be a relief. Next up will be Australia and New Zealand that must get us going and give us the real feel of the 'battle of champions' as this tournament has been advertised so far. On that note and with a promise to see you nice and early tomorrow, this is Abhishek Chaudhary signing off with Pradeep, Raju Peethala, Pratyush Sinha and Naga. Bye
